Following the success of the inaugural Big Dance Australia 2018, Big Dance Maroondah continued the legacy in 2019. 11 free community dance workshops ran weekly in Croydon and Ringwood, including one for dance teachers and community leaders. The community learnt the red group’s routine from Big Dance - Big Heart Story by Frances Rings and Craig Bary (2018) throughout March and April 2019, and performed together at the new Croydon Town Square.

We would like to acknowledge the support from Maroondah City Council through the 2018/19 Arts and Cultural Grants Program, and the endless guidance and assistance from council staff. We also want to thank Maroondah Federation Extate, EV’s Youth Centre, Croydon’s Main Street Traders Association, Your DNA, Happy Day Donuts, and the local community for all the support in making this event successful.

More about Big Dance
Big Dance commissions acclaimed choreographers to create a dance work that can be learnt by anyone in the world, through online tutorials and community workshops.

In 2018, Big Dance engaged thousands of people with one unifying choreographic piece, performed across local, regional and metropolitan communities.

Big Dance 2018 (Big Dance - Big Heart Story) is choreographed by acclaimed choreographers Frances Rings and Craig Bary, with original music by Huey Benjamin. This beautiful choreography has elements of Indigenous Contemporary Dance, and carries the theme of unity.

Big Dance Maroondah is organised by Ausdance Victoria and proudly supported by Maroondah City Council through the Arts & Culture Grant 2018/19.
